This is rare type of anemia where the red cells assume a sickle shape inside the blood vessels.
The severe form causes a lot of symptoms in the patient, mainly aches and pains in different parts of the body.
They also have constant yellow eyes, anemia, gall stone, sometimes kidney problems and bone pains.
The mild form is more common and usually there is only mild anemia.
Like thalassemia if there is a marriage between two sickle trait people the child may get severe disease.
Sickle cell disease is common in Nilgiri tribals, the Badaga and Thodas, Vokkaliga Gowdas and tribals from Wayanad area of Kerala.
There are also other areas in India mostly hill tribals of Odisha, Maharashtra etc where sickle cell disease is prevalent.

Anemia may be there because the body may be destroying blood which is formed or there could be a problem called Aplastic Anemia.
In this disease, the bone marrow which normally forms all blood cells does not function and the patient suffers due to lack of red cells, white cells and platelets.
