Blood Diseases at Birth
Blood Diseases at Birth
Every component in blood has to be in perfect proportion or numbers.
Too much or too little will cause a problem
or may be part of a disease.
Many blood disease come at birth; because there may be defective genes in the parents.
The most common of these congenital diseases (that occur at birth) are Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anemia and rare types of anemia (lack of blood).
In India these conditions are more common since lot of marriages still take place between close relatives.
The only way to avoid these diseases is to prevent them by increasing awareness in the public, counseling young people who are about to get married and in some cases to diagnose the problem when the unborn baby is still very tiny, so called prenatal diagnostics.
These tests are possible in a few centres in India.
